Why Do You Say
Why do you say what you are saying as we lie here drinking in bed washing our lovemaking down deep into our innards as if it never happened while I want to reach Inside myself and pull it back out and examine it as I would a precious jewel and commit it to a memory that will flash before me when I’m on my deathbed but you’re talking about your dog and past lovers and getting up early tomorrow for your appointment to get your nails fixed and because you’re saying these things I think I’ll turn over and hope for sleep and tomorrow you’ll hector me because we never talk and I’ll hold onto my memory of tonight and say I’m sorry.
