Winter's Slumber
I recall the valley below the mountains When snow would drop Like blankets from the sky Covering us like a mother covering her child. Telling us to sleep Turning every sound into a whisper Travellers would halt and time would slow. We drowsed and dreamed within the cleansing cold. Those nights promised an eternity Of rest. The sacred darkness held us in a gentle hand As we drifted on a quiet unseen sea The lightless silence pulled like thread From the cloak of night
