Words
Locked within I dig down deep Through layers and defences, Cutting through the dreams that keep me safe, like walls and fences; And words are what I find (So many words), that estimate and measure me, Battling to package and define, Besieging my integrity. So little of what I feel may be expressed With words, that harass and obstruct, And in the struggle tormented rest Seems preferable to a language that corrupts. But I must speak, and all I have are words; Somehow I have to pacify and mould, To send them, like message bearing birds, Conveying imprecise expressions of the whole.
