You're the Reason
Note: This is the story of an elderly man I knew years ago. You're the Reason ***************** I've rambled on the razors edge of life - and I've survived! The troubled seas - I've sailed them all; in deadly depths I've dived. What drew me down from Dangers' ledge - the one I walked for years? What was the light that led my ship back home to safer piers? It was you. My eyes have seen the darkest sights that life and death can show. My heart has felt ferocious loss, and pain you'll never know. But now the fights, the drunken nights, and sins of skin are done. What was the reason why I changed and saw my battles won? It was you. I sit and stare as tiny feet attempt a step or two, And tears appear to show my joy for what my son can do. The years have made me softer now - a boy can make me cry! I love the reason why I get to hold my child up high! And it's you. This gentle man of eighty now, has been to life's extremes. I went from heartless ruffian - to man with loving dreams. I've nearly died by tragic means - by booze, by gun, by knife. But thankfully IT came to me - my second chance at life... It was you.
