Young Johnny Doublet
In the time when castles ruled the lands, When power lay in a few men's hands, A pirate lived in wealth and fame, One Johnny Doublet was his name. The legends of Doublet may abound (they say the truth will not be found.) But take a seat, and hear my say On how John Doublet found his way. When Johnny was but just a lad, His life around him made him mad. So by a raft he set to sea, And said "A pirate's life's for me!" As time went on and Doublet grew, He built a ship and found a crew. The power made young Johnny bold, And soon he stole a bit of gold. The rush he got, the fear he earned, They say that's why the young lad turned. And by the time he grew a beard, his ruthless ways were greatly feared. From coast to coast, he burned and pillaged, From the largest towns to the smallest village. And very soon upon his head, Was placed a price to have him dead. Well Doublet's heart grew small and cold. His once young face turned hard and old. And though he loved his old vocation, He settled down in one location. Though once he'd sworn to have no other, He soon met and married a lover. But Johnny soon began to lose, His ill-earned cash to clothes and shoes. Alas, young Johnny did not know, that marriage was his greatest foe. (So ends the tragic tale of How young John Doublet fell in love.)
